Hello,
The first Komodo IDE 8.0.0 alpha (pre-release) is now available for
testing. You can download it here:
http://downloads.activestate.com/Komodo/releases/8.0.0a1/
This is the first of many Komodo 8 pre-release builds, which will lead
to an official Komodo 8.0.0 final release in 2013. The major changes in
Komodo 8 are:
* *Massive Code Update*
Komodo has received a number of updates to it's underlying code
base. Komodo now uses Mozilla 17 code base, Python 2.7 and Scintilla
3.2.1, as well as other updated internal components. All of which means:
o Better performance - with faster start times as well as using
less CPU and memory resources
o Better hardware support - by detecting and supporting modern
computer systems
o A better browser preview - supporting the latest and greatest
web technologies
* *Cocoa 64-bit*
On the Mac, Komodo has moved from 32-bit Carbon to 64-bit Cocoa.
Komodo will work better when running on the latest Mac OS X
computers. With Komodo 8 we've also added initial support for Retina
displays, with the Komodo editor component being able to show
crystal clear fonts under this mode.
* *New Languages*
The following language changes have been made to Komodo 8:
o Laravel Blade language added - a PHP templating language
o Sass syntax checking added
You can view the release notes for a full list of changes in Komodo 8:
http://docs.activestate.com/komodo/8.0/releases/ide.html#bug_fixes-8.0.0a1
The Komodo IDE 8.0.0 alpha builds can be trialed by anyone (you don't
need to hold a Komodo IDE license). We'll continue releasing additional
Komodo 8 alpha and beta builds every 4-6 weeks until the final release
sometime in 2013.
