Hello,

We are releasing the second Beta build of Komodo IDE/Edit 8.5.0 - you
can download it directly from the links below, or use '/Help > Check for
Update/s...' if you're already using Beta 1:

    http://www.activestate.com/komodo-ide/downloads
    http://www.activestate.com/komodo-edit/downloads

This is a pre-release build, and as such, there may be bugs. Please help
us test it out and provide feedback on the new features.

Note that we'll continue making 8.5 beta builds over the coming months,
with an official 8.5.0 final release expected around Q4 2013.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
*8.5.0b2 Overview*

**

  *

*Multiple Carets*: In addition to Komodo's rectangular (column)
editing, you can now add multiple caret positions in the editor, so
that any typing or editing commands will be reflected at all caret
locations. Use Ctrl+Click (Cmd+Click on the Mac) to place additional
carets, or alternatively use the editors right click contextual menu
and select 'Add as Additional Caret/Selection'. Let us know if you'd
like to see improvements in this area.

  *

*Menu Button*: You can now collapse the main menu bar (does not
apply to Mac OS X) and use the toolbar menu button instead. This can
be useful when you want to maximize the vertical editing space. A
bonus of this feature is that the last used menu items will also be
displayed in the top-level of the button menu, making it quick and
easy to select the same command again.

  *

*Sleek Scrollbars*: The side pane scrollbars will now fade away when
they are not in use. This creates more space for your panes and less
distraction in the user interface whilst editing. The pane
scrollbars will become prominent again once you start interacting
with the pane or scrollbar elements.

  *

*Performance*: Various performance tweaks were made to improve the
editing performance, as well as improving search speed, syntax
checking times and general responsiveness of Komodo.

  * *Mac Improvements*: Drawing is smoother and Komodo can draw using
the integrated graphics card. There were some edge cases on Retina
screens where drawing glitches could occur in the editor component,
leaving unwanted artefacts - this has now been fixed. Komodo can now
work with the integrated graphics card - this can lead to improved
    battery life on laptops.

As a reminder, these are the major features that were added in 8.5.0b1:

  * *Code Refactoring* - smart code transformation and renaming abilities
  * *Breadcrumbs* - file and directory navigation bar
  * *Abyss Theme* - new dark theme (skin) for Komodo
  * *Open Files Pane* - list of opened editor files
