Problem with horizontal scroll bars in Komodo IDE 8

I've recently moved over to Komodo 8.0.2 from an earlier version, actually 5.2.4, as I was very familiar with that one and hadn't had time to become get used to all the changes since that version. I'm gradually getting used to 8.0.2 but I'm having one problem with it which I can't recall was present with 5.2.4.

For some reason or other there is a horizontal scroll bar in the code pane although none of the code extends beyond the visible limit of that pane. This is a nuisance as I keep on unintentionally scrolling horizontally when I'm using the mouse or trackpad to scroll vertically. I've looked in the Preferences in Komodo but can't find anything that's controlling the length of the scrollbar. I assume that I must be missing something, can someone please put me right.

Incidentally I'm on a Mac using OS X 10.8.4.
