The IIID Expert Forum on 'Manuals for Global Use' will focus on
the development and usage of visual instructions for technical
products. The increasing complexity and variety of such products
makes them more difficult to use effectively. Pictorial and
textual instructions, whether on paper or on screen, whether
static or dynamic, attempt to counteract this trend. To overcome
language barriers information designers focus on pictures,
drawings and pictograms. At the same time they might fall prey
to cultural differences in the perception and interpretation of
images. Focussing on manuals will provide opportunities to
discuss case studies and research with regard to the effective
use of images, their interaction with universally understood
keywords, requirements of multi-language applications and
issues of related terminology and standardization

CALL FOR PAPERS:
To submit a proposal please supply by e-mail:
- a short abstract (5 to 10 lines) including the title and author
   of the presentation,
- a detailed content (ideally the Planning Committee should be
   able to base its decision on a fully worked out presentation)
and
- a short CV with affiliation
