Actually, the UDC and the colon classification are two different things. The UDC was an extension of the Dewey Decimal System developed by Paul Otlet, it has been used mainly in Europe. The Colon Classification was the classification system developed by Ranganathan that popularized the use of facets. There are several rarely used systems out there, it is easy to get them confused! -----Original Message----- From: Margaret Hanley [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, January 24, 2003 6:14 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [facetedclassification] OPACs using Colon or Bliss? If I remember correctly colon classification is another name for UDC. Resources below http://www.udcc.org/opacs.htm Also I work for the BBC which uses UDC to catalogue TV and radio prgrams. The systems are inhouse, but if you ever in the UK I can set up a look-see. Mags __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
