[apologies if some of you have already seen this info]

Recently I asked at the Networked Knowledge System and Services (NKOS)
list about the standards in datanaming for binding
and exchange of thesauri and classification...
I got several suggestions summarized in this mail.
I realize this may be of interest to this list as well.

for a KO scheme in an OAI-compliant format

Mapping & crosswalks by OCLC Research Terminology services project
OAI implementation by OCLC Research OAICat project

- MARC21 Classification Format
http://www.loc.gov/marc/classification/eccdhome.html

comment: This is the first proper format for management and maintenance
of classification ever created and is the most detailed source for data
element
names in classification. The names are particular for two enumerative
classifications only
(LCC and DC). They can be all mapped to faceted classifications but
there is a number of elements/attributes that faceted
classification/thesauri have and
cannot be mapped to this format.

-OCLC work on mapping between: MARC21 Classification Format and
Z39.19 (NISO thesaurus standard) and the Zthes schema (based on z39.19)
comment: very relevant research as it may bring two systems in one schema.

- Eprints UK and efforts to format KO tools in OAI compliant format

comment: work done here will have to deal with element/attribute names... I
did not
manage to find any registry as such on the web

NKOS Registry - Draft Set of Attributes
	http://nkos.slis.kent.edu/Thesaurus_Registry.html
Comment: First one is the list of metadata elements necessary to describe
and register KOS system.
In the context I am intersted in this core administrative metadata that I
would deliver when exporting
my system and in that respect is very useful.
Draft set, contains the following 'labels of relationships':
Use, Broader Term, Narrower Term, Related Term, Other Relationships, Other
Information Given for Terms
(e.g., definitions, history notes), Arrangement of Displays (e.g.,
alphabetical, hierarchical),
Arrangement Description.
Which is closer to what I look for but this is only thesaurus orientated and
rather limited.
