I am the editor of CMS Review (http://www.cmsreview.com), where we are 
trying to create a classification system for Content Management Systems.

We offer a user-controllable faceted directory of CM systems, where the 
user can decide what is the top facet, what next and so forth in a 
custom hierarchy/taxonomy.

You can then view the resulting taxonomy in OPML (Dave Winer's Outline 
Processor Markup Language), and some day in Peter's XFML (eXchangeable 
Faceted Metadata Language).

We also have a side-by-side Feature Comparator for CMS.

It uses a list of features that is under development.  We wrote an 
article for the Gilbane Report on the concept of a CMSML (Content 
Management System Markup Language). See

information feeds (javascript snippets of code) that can be added to any 
website interested in CMS.

I am hoping others might give us critical feedback on this process.  I 
joined ASIST and my local chapter in the hope of finding people 
interested in helping.

I am also serving as editor of the DMOZ Open Directory Project for 
several CM-related categories. As you know, there we have a very simple 
taxonomy.  I am hoping for some modest reforms to allow keywords in the 
listings.
