Kathryn La Barre, I am currently doing some research in putting FC on website, I'd like to participate in your study. There is still one thing that I have not understood, how do I participate? That is to say, I will be a interviewee or interviewer? All the best Guoliang Shi Visiting Scholar School of Information and Library Science University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3360 E-mail: mailto:[email protected] E-mail: mailto:[email protected] kathryn_la_barre <[email protected]> wrote: Apologies for cross-postings. I am a doctoral candidate at Indiana University currently conducting a study of the use of facets in website design and construction. During May and June - I plan to interview 20 individuals who use facets, facet analysis, or faceted classification as site components (for example: as content categories, in browsing, navigation or search systems). Earlier work relating to this study is posted here: http://mypage.iu.edu/~klabarre/facetstudy.html Interviews will not last more than one hour, will be conducted individually, and will be conducted at your office or other convenient place, phone interviews are also a possibility. A transcript of the interview will be made. Each participant will receive a copy and can edit the interview transcript. The names of participants will be kept confidential. The result of these interviews and a preceding study of a random sample of websites, will be the creation of a checklist or set of guidelines for faceted website design and construction. Each participant in the study will receive a copy. Once completed, the results of this study will be posted on my website. If you are interested in participating, or would like to know more about this study, please contact me / [email protected] One last bit of info - since the activities and products of the members of this group are of particular interest to this study: This study is dissertation research which will involve content analysis of websites and interviews with practitioners. This isn't as "academic" as it may first seem, especially since the original theoretical underpinnings of faceting come from the practice of people in the trenches, not from university studies! This is why I want to talk to people who actively use facets -- about their own use, understanding and difficulties. I view this study as an opportunity to re-examine the theory underlying faceting and provides a chance to inject practical, current experience gained from using facets on the web. Hoping to have a chance to talk with you soon, Kathryn La Barre http://mypage.iu.edu/~klabarre doctoral candidate, School of Library and Information Science Indiana University ---------- Thanks for playing. --------------------------------- Yahoo!
