Special Session on “Multimedia Analytics for Contextual Human Understanding (MACHU)"
MMM 2022 - 28th International Conference on Multimedia Modeling
5-8 April 2022, Qui Nhon, Vietnam


Contextual analysis of human activities is a key underlying challenge for multimedia analytics, with applications in recommender systems, personal health analytics, quantified-self analysis, lifelogging, large-scale data-driven epidemiological studies, and many more. The variety and volume of personal data available for contextual analysis has increased significantly recently, due mostly to the availability of low-cost sensors and their widespread adoption. Such multimedia data sources include wearable biometrics and sensors, human activity detectors, location logs, along with various forms of information and knowledge context sources. State-of-the-art AI techniques are usually applied to these data sources in order to build semantically rich user models of human context. However, with new sensor sources constantly becoming available, along with technological progress in multimodal AI analytics, this research topic represents 

The MACHU’22 special session at MMM’22 presents an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present latest results in the domain of contextual human understanding using MM data sources. Topics of interest to this special session include, but are not limited to:

- novel data sources for contextual human understanding
- multimedia analytics for contextual human understanding
- interactive human modeling software or retrieval systems
- lifelogging and quantified-self analytics
- real-world user studies for contextual human understanding
- contextual data-driven recommender systems
- applications of  contextual human modeling


Special session papers will supplement the regular research papers and will be included in the proceedings of MMM 2022 /(which is now a CORE-B ranked conference). 

 We invite three  types of submissions to the special session:
Research papers: These papers should present recent and impactful results in the domain of contextual human understanding.
Experience papers: These papers can present experiences of user studies into contextual human understanding.
Position papers: These papers can facilitate the presentation of a strong opinion about an issue relating to contextual human understanding.


Submissions:
Submissions will follow the exact same author guidelines of MMM’22. The conference proceedings will be published in the series of Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) by Springer. Submissions must not exceed 12 pages and must conform to the formatting instructions of Springer Verlag, LNCS series, and adhere to the submission schedule. Regular research paper submissions will be peer-reviewed in a double-blind review process; thus, the submissions must be properly anonymised. Each contribution must be associated with one full registration; only one contribution can be associated with each registration.
