The 48th ACM SIGIR conference, will be run as an in-person conference from July 13th to 18th, 2025 in Padua, Italy. The SIGIR Symposium on IR in Practice (SIRIP) 2025 will be held as part of ACM SIGIR 2025, onsite (in Padua, Italy). We aim to provide an opportunity for researchers, engineers, practitioners, analysts, and consumers to meet and discuss the latest and greatest Information Retrieval (IR) technologies as deployed in companies, big and small, and to be the premier forum for knowledge sharing across the boundary between academia and industry. Important Dates Time zone: Anywhere on Earth (AoE) =E2=97=8F SIRIP Proposal abstract due: *February 20, 2025* =E2=97=8F SIRIP Proposal due: *February 27, 2025* =E2=97=8F SIRIP Notifications: *April 17, 2025* =E2=97=8F SIRIP Days: TBD (during SIGIR, July 13-18, 2025) Proposal Guidelines We solicit talk and panel proposals for SIRIP in the following categories: =E2=97=8F Open problems and challenges in industry, from industry researc= h to production =E2=97=8F Innovative approaches used in deployed systems and products, = domain specific challenges are welcome =E2=97=8F Position papers on the current and future state of IR in prac= tice, and the role IR could play in shaping the next generation of information systems. =E2=97=8F Role of search, Generative AI & IR in the creator economy (e.= g. short video platforms, audio platforms) & marketplaces (e.g. delivery services, hospitality industry, crowdfunding platforms, retail platforms, rentals) =E2=97=8F System design case-studies from industry practitioners, ident= ifying best practices and design principles for learning systems =E2=97=8F Evaluation in production. Metrics and measurement techniques = used at scale to understand performance of industrial systems. Success in achieving offline/online evaluation consistency =E2=97=8F Complex user interaction modeling in real-world situations =E2=97=8F Trust and safety: Combating misinformation spread; Building pr= ivacy preserving retrieval systems; Algorithmic responsibility & fairness. =E2=97=8F We especially encourage proposals related to the above catego= ries with new methods and practices large language models, and foundation models, including: =E2=97=8B Best practices and successful applications combining LLM and= IR in new or existing products. =E2=97=8B Novel applications of LLM and IR in agentic workflows =E2=97=8B LLMs / foundation models =E2=80=9Cbehind the scenes=E2=80=9D= in IR systems (not user-facing applications) We encourage presentations from different perspectives, including: =E2=97=8F Presentations creating a connection with academia to solve inter= esting problems, including presentations from academics spending time in industry, or vice-versa, covering insights for other practitioners =E2=97=8F Presentations from small companies, especially startups or spi= n-offs from either a university project or a large company. Presentation and Publication The presentation format of the Symposium will be decided based on submissions and interest to the wider community and is likely to be a mix of short and long presentations as well as panels. A condition of acceptance is that at least one author commits to registering and attending SIRIP 2025 (in-person) to present the work. The authors of accepted proposals will be invited to submit a camera-ready copy to be included in the proceedings. Submission Presentation proposals should be 2-4 pages (excluding references) and follow the ACM format. Any appendices will be counted towards the page limit. Formatting guidelines are available at this ACM publication site <https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template> (use sigconf proceedings template for LaTeX and the Interim Template for Word). In-Person Attendance Policy SIGIR 2025 is an in-person conference. Despite the challenges it may pose, we believe an in-person conference is more beneficial in terms of direct engagement and networking opportunities, more dynamic exchange of research ideas, and welcoming and nurturing newcomers. All accepted papers (including all tracks) to the main conference and workshops are expected to be presented in-person. We anticipate that at least one author from each accepted paper will attend the conference in person to deliver the paper and address audience questions during the Q&A session. Child Care Service SIGIR 2025 promotes inclusion and attendance also by organizing a child care service, in order to foster work-family balance by offering congress attendees the opportunity to attend events with their children. Children from 0 to 12 years of age are welcomed in a specially set up room inside Padua Congress Center throughout the duration of the congress. A colorful, =E2=80=9Cwarm=E2=80=9D, safe and welcoming environment, in the sa= me structure that hosts the congresses, a protected place where parents can leave their children, but at the same time stay in touch with them during the breaks of the different sessions. The nursery space dedicated to the 0-3 age group, equipped with a changing table and other facilities dedicated to the little ones, is next to the kids=E2=80=99 area for children over 3 years old and a cinema room for screenings. The activities are run by a company specialized in education services with expert staff, appointed by Padua Congress Center, and include thematic workshops - from painting to creative activities - as well as playtime also in the open air, in the facility's outdoor spaces. Children are also offered lunch. The service is available - for a fee (depending on sponsors) - to all SIGIR 2025 attendees who request it.
