ECIR 2027 First Call for Papers

The European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR) is the prime
European forum for the presentation of original research in the field of
Information Retrieval (ECIR 2027, www.ecir2027.co.uk
<http://www.ecir2027.co.uk>) and will take place as a physical
(in-person) conference from 21-25 March 2027 at Southampton Football
Club, Southampton, England, UK.

ECIR 2027 is actively seeking top-tier and unique submissions
encompassing theory, experimentation, and practical insights related to
the retrieval, representation, management, and utilization of textual,
visual, and multi-modal information. ECIR strongly encourages the
submission of papers that focus on users, systems, applications, and
evaluation. Some of the pertinent subjects include, but are not
restricted to:

  *

    User-related aspects, which encompass facets like information
    interaction, contextualization, personalization, simulation,
    characterization, and information behaviours.

  *

    System-related facets, covering retrieval and recommendation
    algorithms, machine learning, deep learning, content representation,
    natural language processing, system architectures, efficiency
    techniques, and scalability.

  *

    Applications in areas such as search and recommender systems, web
    and social media applications, domain-specific search (e.g.,
    professional, biomedical, chemistry), innovative interfaces,
    intelligent search agents/bots, and related groundbreaking search tools.

  *

    Research related to evaluation, encompassing novel metrics and
    innovative approaches for assessing users, systems, and/or applications.

  *

    Emerging trends in information retrieval, such as 'IR enhanced
    machine learning' and 'Green IR.'

  *

    Information retrieval topics that are well-aligned with existing and
    past tracks of the Text Retrieval Conference (TREC).

ECIR 2027 welcomes contributions that advance our understanding and
application of information retrieval across these diverse dimensions in
the following formats:

Full Paper Track: The Full Paper Track offers an avenue for researchers
to present their cutting-edge research in Information Retrieval that
either has already made a significant impact or possesses the potential
to do so. Submissions for full papers should comprise 12 pages of
content in addition to pages for references. More information:
https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-full-papers
<https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-full-papers>

Short Paper Track: The Short Paper Track invites original contributions
that introduce fresh and thought-provoking concepts, addressing
innovative application areas within the Information Retrieval field.
While the inclusion of promising preliminary results is encouraged, it
is not mandatory. Papers that stimulate discussion and foster engagement
are particularly encouraged. Short paper submissions should extend to 6
pages, with additional pages allocated for references. More information:
https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-short-papers
<https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-short-papers>

Tutorials: ECIR 2027 is seeking proposals for half-day (3 hours plus
breaks) tutorials covering topics relevant to the field of IR and its
applications. Each tutorial should cover a single topic in depth. For
example, tutorials may cover an established IR sub-topic, introduce an
emerging topic in IR and its application, or update the IR community on
recent advances in other relevant fields, such as natural language
processing, recommendation systems, artificial intelligence, or machine
learning. Tutorials are encouraged to be as interactive and hands-on as
possible (e.g., having exercises the participants can complete during or
after the tutorial). More information:
https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-tutorials
<https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-tutorials>

Workshops: ECIR 2027 workshops provide a platform for presenting novel
ideas and research results in emerging areas in IR in a focused and
interactive way. Workshops can be either a half-day (3.5 hours plus
breaks) or a full day (7 hours plus breaks). The organizers of approved
workshops are expected to set up a webpage for the workshop, disseminate
the call for papers and the call for participation, gather and review
submissions, and prepare the final program. A camera-ready summary of
the workshop, written by the organizers, will be included in the ECIR
conference proceedings. More information:
https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-workshops
<https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-workshops>

IR for Good: The IR-for-Good track at ECIR is dedicated to gathering
impactful, high-quality, and societally-motivated IR research, fostering
a common platform for engagement among researchers, practitioners, and
civil society from various backgrounds and sectors. The focus of this
track is to facilitate conversations within the IR community and in
conjunction with other disciplines on how IR research and practices can
contribute towards realizing more equitable, emancipatory, and
sustainable futures. Submissions of papers must be at least 6 pages (the
sixth page should have at least some content but not necessary to fill
it) and at most 12 pages in length plus additional pages for references.
More information: https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-ir-for-good-papers
<https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-ir-for-good-papers>

Industry Day: The ECIR 2027 Industry Day will highlight the growing role
of IR in agentic AI systems-intelligent agents that plan, act, and
retrieve. As such agents increasingly rely on IR for grounding, memory,
and tool use, we invite work on the design, integration, and evaluation
of IR components that enable agents to perform real-world tasks reliably
and safely at scale. Proposals are limited to 4 pages, excluding
references. More information:
https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-industry-day-presentations
<https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-industry-day-presentations>

Reproducibility Track: Reproducibility is key for establishing research
to be reliable, referenceable, and extensible for the future. Emphasise
your motivation for selecting the paper/papers, the process of how
results have been attempted to be reproduced (successful or not), the
communication that was necessary to gather all information, the
potential difficulties encountered, and the result of the process. A
successful reproduction of the work is not required, but it is crucial
to provide a precise, rigorous evaluation of the process to allow
lessons to be learned for the future. Submissions in this track should
be 12 pages in length, with additional pages allocated for references.
More information:
https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-reproducibility-papers
<https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-reproducibility-papers>

Resource Track:To highlight and encourage the creation and sharing of
different types of resources, ECIR 2027 features a dedicated Resource
Track. This track welcomes papers that introduce novel resources,
improve the quality or usability of existing resources, or provide tools
that facilitate experimentation, benchmarking, and reproducibility in
Information Retrieval, Information Access, Recommendation Systems and
related areas. Submissions in this track should be 12 pages in length,
with additional pages allocated for references. More information:
https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-resource-papers
<https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-resource-papers>

Demonstration Track: The Demo Track provides the opportunity for
researchers to present their research prototypes and operational systems
which they wish to share with the community, obtain feedback from
experts, and exchange knowledge on implementing and developing such
systems. Demo papers are up to 4 pages in length plus additional pages
for references. More information:
https://www.ecir2027.co.uk/call-for-demos

vel ideas and research results in emerging areas in IR in a focused and i=
nteractive way. Workshops can be either a half-day (3.5 hours plus breaks=
) or a full day (7 hours plus breaks). The organizers of approved worksho=
ps are expected to set up a webpage for the workshop, disseminate the cal=
l for papers and the call for participation, gather and review submission=
s, and prepare the final program. A camera-ready summary of the workshop,=
 written by the organizers, will be included in the ECIR conference proce=
