PHD POSITION AD

MAVIR (Improving the accessibility and visibility of multilingual
information in Internet for the Region of Madrid) is a research
consortium sponsored by the Community of Madrid. It is made up of an
interdisciplinary team constituted by scientific, technicians, linguists
and documentalists of several universities and one documentary centre,
who have joined together to carry out an integrated effort in the areas
of research, education and technology transfer in order to improve the
accessibility and visibility of multilingual and multimedia information
in the net.

The Intelligent Systems Group is an interdisciplanary group integrating
researchers from different departments (mainly we are working on
Intelligent Information Access and its integration in Health Care
Systems) at Universidad Europea de Madrid and is a member of the MAVIR
(www.mavir.net) consortium.

We are looking for an experienced candidate to fill one position of PhD
researcher initially for a ten month period with the following profile:

- PhD degree in computer science, computational linguistics, information
science, knowledge management, health care and medical informatics or
similar fields.
- Experience and/or good knowledge of areas such as Text Categorization,
Question Answering, Corpus Annotation, Document Clustering, Intelligent
Agents, Machine Learning techniques, Health Care Information Systems
- Knowledge of Text and Multimedia Indexing and Retrieval and Mobile
Computing will also be considered.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a project.
- Proficiency in at least two European languages, being English one of them.
- Previous experience in European or International Projects will be
considered

The position will provide opportunities to meet and collaborate with
other researchers not only in scientific tasks, but also in the proposal
of a Master’s degree in Intelligent Access to Information. The aim is to
adapt the master to the Bologna Declaration and participate in the
“Erasmus Mundus†program. Applications will be considered until the
position is filled. However, a final decision will be made by the middle
of February 2006 to start in March 2006. The position is located at UEM
campus (Villaviciosa de Odón - Madrid)

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS

There is no restriction on nationality however - candidates outside the
European 25 Member States, Associated Candidate States (Bulgaria,
Romania, Turkey) or Associated States (Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein,
Norway, Switzerland), should check for the general conditions to obtain
a residence permission in Spain. An annual gross income of approximately
30,000 euros will support the position. Applicants should email a cover
