The workshop focuses on Multimedia search on large scale information
retrieval systems.
Other than addressing recent challenges in modern (distributed)
information systems, 
we would like to involve scientist belonging to different reasearch areas,
namely text-search and image-search and music-search etc., 
in order to propose a new unifying framework.

Introduction and Motivation

Google's recent acquisition of YouTube has highlighted the public
interest in having easy access to a large volume of multimedia
content. Nonetheless, indexing and retrieval of multimedia data are
still highly challenging research problems. While text search is
strong and mature, techniques for searching multimedia information are
still in their infancy. It is still very hard to find pictures by
similarity, or to allow users to express complex queries in terms of
multimedia features. The "Search by humming" service is a bright
example in a very unexplored area. Substantial research is needed to
weave together text search and multimedia search.

P2P algorithms offer robust, scalable and highly available ways of
exploiting large pools of storage and computational resources. We
believe that such algorithms will play an important role in the
definition of next generation multimedia retrieval and delivery
paradigms. The approach has been shown to be effective for tasks such
as file sharing. BitTorrent, for instance, has appeared as a highly
efficient means of content distribution. We imagine P2P as a way to
connect major content distributors and final users, who can access
through desktop computers, and mobile devices. Very complex problems
appear when trying to connect devices with limited bandwidth and
computing power.

Besides technological problems, there are strong open issues on
copyright management, payment schemes, authorship. All these need to
be solved for every actor interested in entering the area of content
distribution.


Topics of Interest

In this workshop, we will bring together active researchers,
developers, and practitioners from both academia and the industry, to
discuss technological and management problems related to multimedia
information access, distribution and retrieval. Papers are invited in
the following (and other related) topics of interest:
    *     Content-based indexing, search, and retrieval of multimedia data
    *     Algorithms for data distribution and search on P2P networks
    *     Multimedia query languages, query processing and optimization
    *     Efficient and scalable storage and search techniques
    *     Tools, benchmarks, and standards
    *     Datasets for multimedia IR applications
    *     Approaches to copyright management
    *     Multimedia and mobile devices

    * Paper Submission: April 10, 2007
    * Paper Notification: April 26, 2007
    * Camera-ready: April 30, 2007

Papers will be accepted at RNDM after a careful peer-review process.
Accepted papers will be included in the Infoscale 2007 Conference
Proceedings.
