Second Workshop on The Future of Web Search
June 18-20, Bertinoro, Italy

Call for Participation and Ph.D. Scholarships

This workshop is a follow-up of the highly successful meeting by the
same name that took place in May of last year in Barcelona
(http://grupoweb.upf.es/workshop/).

The workshop will bring together several well-known researchers in the
field to discuss interesting problems at the frontier of current web
(re)search. The workshop represents a unique opportunity for Ph.D.
students to be exposed to the current trends in the area of web search.

There will be several 25 minutes invited presentations and two keynote
speeches, each 50 minutes long. Preston McAfee, an economist of renown
from Yahoo! Research and Thomas Hofmann, director of Google
Zuerich, will be the two keynote speakers.

The workshop will take place in Bertinoro from June 17 (arrivals) to
June 20 (departures). The Future of Web Search will take place at
Bertinoro Castle, a wonderfully restored XII century castle situated in
the beautiful Italian countryside not far from the towns of Forlì and
Ravenna.

May 28, with a short statement of what is your relation with Web Search
and why you want to attend (if you are Ph.D. student see below).
The registration fee for the workshop is 350 euros (double room) and
and 500 euros (single room). The registration covers all local expenses.

Participants will be selected based on their research scope and in a
FCFS basis after the Ph.D. selection process and will be notified before
May 31.

Ph.D. SCHOLARSHIPS APPLICATION

A limited number of places is reserved for Ph.D. students. Students with
a successful application will be awarded a scholarship covering the
registration fee, accommodation in a double room and all local expenses.

Prospective participants should send a detailed curriculum vitae and a
cover letter to: tfws07-33FTb0/[email protected] The cover letter should detail why the
student would like to participate in the workshop and what the student
hopes to gain from it. Deadline for application submissions is on May
28, 2007. Students with a successful application will be notified by
email before May 31.
