WebBar 2007 - 2nd Call for Participation ====================================================== 3rd BiCi International PhD School on Advanced Retrieval and Web Mining (WebBar 2007) Organised by: BiCi, the Bertinoro International Center for Informatics Villa Monastero, Varenna August 27-31, 2007 ====================================================== After two successful editions, the 3rd edition of WebBar will take place in Varenna, on the magic shores of Lake Como. Prabhakar Raghavan, Head of Yahoo! Research, Editor-in-chief of JACM and world-renowned scientist, will offer his Stanford PhD course in slightly condensed form (http://www.stanford.edu/class/cs276/). This course is the basis of his new book "Introduction to Information Retrieval" co-authored with Chris Manning and Heinrich Schuetze. The course will be complemented by seminars of well-known researchers presenting their own recent work. Fabrizio Sebastiani, of CNR Pisa, will offer a tutorial on text categorization. During the school, several projects for independent research will be discussed. In past editions, many of these projects became full-fledged research papers accepted by prestigious venues such as WWW, ACM PODS and others. The participation fee is euro 650 for accomodation in a double room and euro 800 for accomodation in a single room. These fees cover all registration and local costs (full room-and-board). There are several fellowships available under the BiCi Leonardo Melandri Programme.
