      ----------- Call-for-Proposal ------------
                      KDD Cup 2008

KDD Cup is the oldest data mining competition. It is an
integral part of the annual ACM SIGKDD International
Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD).
Information about past KDD Cups can be found at
http://www.acm.org/sigs/sigkdd/kddcup/index.php or
http://www.kdnuggets.com/datasets/kddcup.html. With this
call, we invite proposals for KDD Cup 2008. In your
proposal, please provide the following information:

1. Description of the data set (e.g., availability, size,
    etc) and its application domain.

2. Description of the competition tasks. A KDD cup competition
usually consists of 2-3 tasks and each participating
team can choose to compete in one or more tasks. Please
give a description of each proposed task and its practical
    significance.

3. Evaluation measures.

4. Various deadlines. Usually the competition starts in
March and ends in late June or early July. The winners
will be announced in the KDD-2008 conference.

5. Names, affiliations, postal addresses, phone numbers,
and short bios of the organizers.

6. Whether the competition is new or has been held before.

An ideal competition task is one that is practically useful,
can be done without extensive application domain knowledge,
and can be evaluated objectively. Of particular interests
are non-traditional tasks that may need novel solutions.
Please send your proposals to [email protected] by
October 30, 2007.

For your information, KDD-2008 will be held in Las Vegas
from August 24-27, 2008.
