Postdoctoral Position in Text Mining and Social Networks I am looking for a postdoctoral fellow with an outstanding proven research record to join our exciting research group. The research focus of the postdoc will be in the following areas: ANALYSIS AND MINING OF TEXT DATA: The world abounds in text data. In fact, the amount of online data in the form of free text dwarfs what lives inside well structured databases. The vision of this project is to explore how to bring some of the functionalities we take for granted with traditional databases to the world of text. This calls for a mixture of techniques from NLP, IR, machine learning, statistics, data mining, probability theory, and data management. SOCIAL NETWORKS: User driven social networks (e.g., facebook, del.icio.us, flickr) have generated tremendous interest in the recent past. The aim here is to leverage this phenomenon for researching into various aspects of Social Networks including, but not limited to, Discovery of Social Networks from online communities, Social Network Analysis & Mining, Privacy/Security issues in Social Networks, Social Search, and Learning from User Behavior. The position is available immediately. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and accomplishments. A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a field closely related to the above projects is a must. All outstanding candidates are encouraged to apply. Interested candidates should send their resume together with references to: Laks V.S. Lakshmanan Professor Dept. of Computer Science 315-2366 Main Mall The University of British Columbia Vancouver, BC V6T1Z4 Canada. Email: [email protected] Home: http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~laks
