The Conference is open for international participation

Objective
----------
Digital Libraries (DL) is a field of research and development aiming
to promote the theory and practice of processing, dissemination,
storage, search and analysis of various digital data. Digital
Libraries acting as k nowledge depositories can be considered as
complex information systems, development and use of which require
solution of numerous scientific, technological, methodological,
economic, legal and other issues. Digital Libraries technologies are
rapidly developing. Challenges in semantics, integration of
information, perception and presentation of various kinds of data call
for significant innovations. Development of Digital Libraries
technologies is becoming more and more essential for raising of the
standards of health care, education, science and economy, as well as
the quality of life on the whole. Projects devoted to generation of
the digital form of the information concerning the Earth, Universe,
Literature, Art, Environment and Humans, accumulated by the humanity,
are examples of the intensive development of global information repositories.

RCDL'2008 is the tenth conference on this subject (1999 - St.
Petersburg, 2000 - Protvino, 2001 - Petrozavodsk, 2002 - Dubna, 2003
- St. Petersburg, 2004 - Puschino, 2005 - Yaroslavl, 2006 - Suzdal,
2007 - Pereslavl-Zalessky). Information about the conferences is
available at http://www.rcdl.ru. The principal objective of the series
of conferences is to promote the constituting of a community of
Russian experts involved in researches related to digital libraries.
The Conference offers such a community an opportunity to discuss ideas
and outcomes and to make contacts for closer cooperation. The
Conference also promotes the study of international experience,
development of the international cooperation on Digital Libraries. In
view of this, papers describing the advanced directions of research
and development are welcome. Much attention will be paid to pilot
applications and digital collections developed under RFBR projects on
digital libraries. It is planned to organize a round table (or a
panel) discussion dedicated to ontological modeling.

Participation of researchers from Europe and USA is expected. This
will provide for international information interchange and contacts
for cooperation

Topics
-------
1. Models and standards for information and metainformation
representation (including thesauri and ontologies) in DL
2. Ontological modeling features
3. Automatic classification of information
4. Methods and tools for data search, discovery, retrieval and
analysis in DL
5. Access to distributed and heterogeneous digital collections:
interoperability, scalability, relevant information discovery,
metainformation integration
6. Open architectures for digital information environments
7. Mobile technologies and agents in DL context
8. Scientometrics studies in DL for e-science
9. Human aspects of DL (user interfaces, user behavior,
personalization, data visualization (rendering) and analysis,
intellectual property, user communities)
10. Analysis and processing of the natural languages, images,
video-, audio- and other data
11. Multilingual data access and multilingual data service
12. DL prototypes and digital collections for science, education,
culture, health care and management. DL evaluation: models, methods,
results
13. Digital collections in traditional libraries, museums,
archives, information centers
14. Advanced technologies of digital collection generation,
storage and system maintenance
15. Digital collection cataloging, indexing, referencing,
maintenance of integrity and consistency
16. DL security and information protection
17. DL and GRID technologies

The Conference Proceedings will be published as a collection of texts
of full accepted papers, short presentations and abstracts of posters
as well as in electronic form at the Conference Web-site.

Dates and venue
----------------
The Conference will be held on October 12-16, 2008 at the Joint
Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, Russia. Dubna is a quiet
and pleasant town 130 km north of Moscow on the picturesque banks of
the Volga river. There is a railway and bus communication between
Dubna and Moscow. Detailed information about Dubna can be found at
http://www.dubna.ru/english/

Paper submission

content, include the references to the publications and/or the
Internet resources.

When submitting extended abstracts, authors should specify to what of
the basic topics of this Conference their contribution is related. It
is possible to specify several suitable topics from the listed above.

The selection of papers to the Conference will be provided by the
program committee after reviewing the texts of extended abstracts. The
program committee can accept work as a short article (2000 - 3000

sufficient for publication as a full-text article.

The accepted presentations should be issued in accordance with the
