Optimor’s math-based Comparison Engine needs a Lead Architect / Developer Come help us revolutionise comparison shopping: Optimor’s [ www.optimorlabs.com ] next generation comparison technology provides personalised and accurate recommendations to consumers, integrating state-of-the-art research in mathematical statistics by senior Oxford academics. We are a start-up seed-funded by one of Europe’s leading early stage investors, TAG, and the DTI, located in Oxford. If you like farecast.com, we promise to excite you more! We are looking for a hands-on Lead Architect/Developer that thinks rigorously to lead development of our data-driven web service and the underlying comparison engine. You will be one of the first senior employees and will help shape the company.’ Responsibilities: * Lead the architectural design for our first publicly released product * Design, build, and test both web applications and core math-recommendation engines * Coordinate back-end and front-end web developers as well as work with our leading mathematicians * Help build the development team Requirements: * Enthusiasm for what you do * Extensive and demonstrable experience architecting, building, and deploying production web applications and scalable software systems * Demonstrated proficiency in an object oriented language (pref. C++) and algorithm design/implementation * Solid knowledge of web technologies: Linux / MySQL / Ruby on Rails (or equivalent) / Apache / Javascript / Ajax / HTML / XML / CSS / Flash * Excellent communication skills and technical team management experience * Willingness to “own code” and build pieces of the system * Passion for agile methodologies and test-driven development * MS Computer Science (or equivalent field), demonstrating strong analytical problem-solving ability * Legally entitled to work in the UK Extras: * Experience with Data Mining Architectures (esp. Web Content Mining) * Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, SQS, S3) * Experience with Kapow Technologies' web robot platform * Background in statistical decision theory / pattern recognition is a strong plus Compensation: * Competitive base salary, benefits, and share options * Successful candidates look forward to assuming strategic roles as the company expands MS or PhD graduates will be strongly preferred.
