Job: Language Technology/Data Mining Postdoc Positions available in Sydney

The Centre for Language Technology (CLT) at Macquarie University in Sydney,
Australia invites applications for two Research Fellow positions. The
appointees will work on a project funded by the Capital Markets Cooperative
Research Centre (CMCRC) focussing on the use of information extraction and
data mining techniques applied to a variety of textual and data sources in
the financial domain. Duties will include carrying out background research
and data analysis, system design and implementation, and interaction with
both clients and other parties in the CRC. We seek applicants who have a
strong interest in constructing commercial-ready applications to further
this research independently and in collaboration with group members.  We
are
particularly interested in applicants who have experience in developing
solutions for massive data set problems.

Essential Criteria: PhD (or submitted) in language technology, data mining
or a closely related area or equivalent experience; demonstrable current
research experience in the area of language technology and/or data mining;
a
pragmatic attitude to system development; software engineering skills;
excellent communication skills; ability to work as a member of a team.

Desirable Criteria: Experience undertaking independent research; strong
interest in developing commercial solutions (particularly using language
technology); solid background in natural language processing with emphasis
on information extraction or summarisation; experience in scalability and
real-time processing of massive data sets; experience in building practical
software; interest in the financial, surveillance or fraud analytics
domains.

The positions are available on a full-time (fixed-term) basis for a period
of three years and may be subject to probationary conditions.  Selection
criteria must be addressed in the application.

Package (Lecturer (Level B)): From A$81,682 pa, including base salary
A$69,022 to A$81,847 pa, annual leave loading and 17% employer's
superannuation.

The appointment is currently governed by the terms of the Macquarie
University Enterprise Agreement 2006-2009.
