Call For Papers
Second ACM International Conference on=20
Web Search and Data Mining (WSDM) 2009
February 9-12, 2009, Barcelona, Spain
Co-Sponsored by ACM SIGIR, SIGKDD, SIGMOD and SIGWEB=20
Abstract deadline: August 4, 2008
WSDM (pronounced "wisdom") is a young ACM conference intended to be the=20
publication venue for research in the areas of search and data mining.=20
Indeed, the pace of innovation in these areas prevents proper coverage=20
by conferences of broader scope. The high attendance at the first WSDM,
held at Stanford University in February of 2008, is a confirmation of=20
this trend. WSDM invites original, high quality submissions related to=20
search and data mining on the Web, with an emphasis on practical but=20
principled novel models of search and retrieval, algorithm design and=20
analysis, economics implications, and in-depth experimental analysis of=20
accuracy and performance. More details are at http://wsdm2009.org/.
Topics of interests include but are not limited to the following:
* Crawling the Web and monitoring change
* Text indexing, index caching, query processing
* Search engine architecture
* Novel query languages
* Security and privacy in Web search and mining
* Distributed, meta, and peer-to-peer search
* Vertical portals and search
* Ranking and machine learning for ranking
* Personalized search and ranking
* User profiling and recommendation systems
* Multifaceted and task-driven search
* User activity modeling and exploitation
* Algorithmic aspects of Web advertising related to sponsored
search and=20
content match
* Multimedia Web search
* User interfaces for search interaction
* Search quality benchmarking and evaluation
* Social media analysis: blogs and friendship networks
* Summarization, clustering, classification of Web data
* Wrapper induction
* Data integration and data cleaning
* Information extraction, slot-filling
* Entity and relationship extraction
* Sense and entity disambiguation
* Discovery-driven Web and social network mining
* Web measurements, Web evolution, Web models
* Traffic and log analysis
* Site-level and other aggregate analysis
* Algorithms and systems for Web-scale search and mining
Paper Format
------------
Papers must report original research not accepted or under submission
to any=20
journal or conference with public proceedings (previous submissions in
informal=20
workshops or as posters are allowed, but must be indicated). Papers
must be=20
formatted according to ACM guidelines and style files=20
http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates
and must fit within 10 pages, including diagrams and appendices if any.=20
A submitted paper must be self-contained. If absolutely necessary, one
or two=20
citations may be flagged as compulsory reading before evaluating the
submission.=20
Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings published by
the=20
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and will also be accessible
to the=20
general public via the conference Web site.
Submissions
-----------
Papers must be submitted in PDF format to the paper submission Web site
(http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=3Dwsdm2009). PDF files must
have all=20
non-standard fonts embedded. After upload, please check the copy
stored on the=20
site. Submissions that do not view or print properly may be rejected
without a=20
chance to rectifythe problem. Please contact wsdm2009-bC77Qfv0vuxrovVCs/[email protected]
for any questions.=20=20
Review Process
--------------
Each paper will be reviewed by at least three regular PC members and
one or two=20
senior PC members. Decisions will take into account novelty, technical
depth,=20
elegance, practical application, impact, and presentation. For some
papers,=20
the PC may ask for clarifications from the authors during an author
feedback=20
phase.
Important Dates
---------------
Abstract submission - August 4, 2008, 17:00, PDT (24:00 GMT)
Full paper submission - August 11, 2008, 17:00, PDT (24:00 GMT)
Notifications - October 20, 2008
Conference dates - February 9-12, 2009
Co-located workshops
--------------------
This year three workshops will be co-located with WSDM:
* The Sixth Workshop on Algorithms and Models for the Web-Graph (WAW 2009)
* Workshop on Exploiting Entities for Information Retrieval (ESAIR II)
