THEME

With the Internet rapidly taking on the role of a global marketplace=20
for the exchange of ideas, experiences and knowledge, an interesting=20
research area has emerged: social computing. Social computing lies at=20
the intersection of social behavior and computing systems. It focuses=20
on the use of technology to create social conventions and contexts,=20
as well as the new relationships and power structures that result.=20
Three widely-agreed tenets of social computing are (i) the shift of=20
innovation from a top-down to a bottom-up model; (ii) the shift of=20
value from ownership to experiences; and (iii) the shift of power=20
from institutions to communities.=20

Social computing (also known as Web 2.0 and social media) has drawn=20
much interest in academia, the information technology industry and=20
among Internet users. This track at ITNG 2009 is therefore timely,=20
and will serve as a platform for those researching this area.=20
Submissions may include research, system, evaluation, policy and=20
position papers. Topics include, but are not limited to:=20

* Use of information communication technologies for social computing=20
* Infrastructure and architectures for social computing=20
* Mobility and social computing=20
* Online communities and social networking=20
* Social tagging and collaborative information organization=20
* Information retrieval and sharing techniques=20
* Usability and user needs=20
* Use and impact=20
* Management of information=20
* Applications and case studies in social computing=20
* Novel interfaces supporting user-generated content and social=20
interaction=20
* Social, institutional and policy issues in social computing=20
* Social computing in schools, enterprises and other organizations=20
* Collaboration and social computing=20
* Social computing trends and issues=20

PAPER SUBMISSION

Proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society.=20
Electronic submission in PDF or MS Word format are required. Papers=20
must represent high quality and previously unpublished work, not=20
currently under review by another conference, workshop, or journal.=20

Interested authors should submit a 6-page summary of their original=20
and unpublished work including 5 keywords in the IEEE format. Your=20
submission should include the author names, complete mailing=20
addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and the email addresses of the=20
authors. For formatting and submission instructions, please refer to=20
http://www.itng.info/Submission.htm.=20

When submitting papers via the online submission system, remember to=20
indicate that the paper is meant for the "Social Computing" track.=20
This option is found in the "Submission Categories" section in the=20
system. If using the online submission system is somehow not=20
possible, you can also email your paper to the track co-chairs at=20
[email protected]=20

=20=20=20=20=20

EVALUATION PROCESS

Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity, and=20
soundness. Per ITNG policy, except for invited papers, all papers=20
will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Accepted=20
papers will be included in the conference proceedings published by=20
the IEEE Computer Society and available on the IEEE digital library.=20
