Call for Participation
We invite you to the ACM Symposium on Document Engineering, to be held
from September 16 to 19, 2008, in S=E3o Paulo, Brazil. Once again, the
Document Engineering community has shown itself to be broad and
diverse, spanning interests from high-level to low-level document
modeling, generation, transformation and production.
For DocEng'08, the program includes 21 long papers,19 short papers and
6 demonstration papers. This year's Symposium features a Best Paper
competition, the outcome of which is determined both by a panel of
past DocEng program chairs and the audience at the Symposium. The best
paper will be selected among those invited to submit a substantially
extended version for their work to the Special Issue on Document
Engineering of the Multimedia Tools and Applications Journal, to be
published in the Spring 2009.
This is the first time that the ACM DocEng symposium is held in South
America, and we are thus especially pleased to have attracted two
keynote speakers who deal with complementary facets of document
engineering. Michal Shilman, from industry, will discuss his research
leading to basic principles for aggregating a diverse set of documents
into a coherent and useful summary. Alberto Laender, from academia,
will discuss his solutions to problems usually faced when managing
multiple digital libraries of scientific publications.
The program also includes, in the first day, a Working Session on
Multimedia Content Transformation: Fragmentation, Enrichment, and
Adaptation, chaired by Pablo Cesar (CWI, Netherlands). This session
includes a complementary talk by Alexandre Agustini (PUCRS-Brazil),
who will discuss his research involving OpenXML, Document Semantics
and Workflow. It is possible to register to this working session only.
