Re: "Here is one of Peirce's earliest discussions of the difference between general signs and vague signs" I didn't mean to write that there, as 1905 wouldn't be considered early days for Peirce -- though it is a good question when he first started using the words "general" and "vague" for this distinction, now that I think of it. I was preparing some related quotes from the 1860's and my mind must have skipped ahead, or back, at that point.
