Irving & All -- I signed on ResearchGate only yesterday, after Gary Fuhrman linked to the NYT article that mentioned it, and I signed on Academia.edu only just now, after you mentioned it, so I can't say much about either one. I've pretty much lost count of the number of different collab-community-forum-social-network sites I've signed on over the last decade. All of them always depend on who is there for what purpose.
