JA: Yes, we always have the choice between "first in nature" and "first for us".
     I have no strong feelings about which first comes first -- I was just going
     by Peirce's statement:

CSP: Besides, it would be illogical to rely upon the categories to decide so fundamental a question.

JA: But you are right, one could just as well say that independent foundations are both fundamental
     without one foundation being more fundamental than the other.
