Revising and continuing ...

One of the things a pragmatist has semiotics for is to keep clear about the distinctive roles of 
objects, signs, and interpretants in a given context of discussion or ongoing frame of reference. 
 From a relational point of view we know that the roles are distinct, relatively speaking, even when 
the things that fill these roles may be same, absolutely or ontologically speaking.  In the present 
context phrases like “Giver of B to C” and clauses like “A is a giver of B to C” or “A gives B to C” 
serve in the roles of signs and interpretant signs that we use to denote the objects of our current 
interest, namely, formal, logical, or mathematical relations.  The “logic of relative terms” is a 
phrase we use to indicate a focus on the signy side of life and the “mathematics of relations” is a 
phrase we use to emphasize the corresponding objects of discussion and thought, but the two go 
together like horse and carriage, as the old song goes.

Now the reason for saying all that stuff above is to make the following point, that many different 
signs can be used under a given regime of interpretation to denote the same semiotic object and the 
same sign can be used under different regimes of interpretation to denote many different objects. 
This circumstance has many significant consequences, which will do us good to pause and consider, 
especially as they affect the present context of discussion.
