[L-A Lokalisointi] Our content management system?

Hi,

Recently we came to the conclusion our current content-management system
might no longer be a perfect fit to our current requirements.
We have grown and started several projects, including two
working-groups. Besides this we had already identified many problems
with the current site, including its navigational-model.
Therefore we decided to do a changeover including a possible switch of
our content management system.

The first step we should take is creating a wish-list of things we would
like to see in an ideal content-management system for our purposes.
These purposes include the requirements our current projects and
working-groups might have.
Hopefully by taking all these into account, we might also be able to fit
needs of future projects and working-groups.

Once we have a wish-list, which can include many wishes both reasonable
and less realistic, we will trim it down to get to a proper list of
requirements.
At the same time we can also produce a list of potentially useful
content management systems to choose from.

As soon as we have both of these we can hold the list of our
requirements next to the list of content management systems and its
features, and see which fits best. 
This analysis is most likely to produce two or more likely candidates,
which will be tested to see how well they run on our server and
experience the admin-overhead it has.

After that step we will have chosen the technology to use for our
website. Off course this is just one of the important steps to make.
Creating a navigation-model and graphical layout are the other steps
needed. But those are left as an exercise until after we completed our
vision and mission process[3], as they will guide us making the right
decision on that front.

So in short:
   1. Create wish-list
   1. Create list of potentially useful content management systems
   2. Convert wish-list into list of requirements
   3. Select most potent cms
   4. Test cms's from previous step
   5. Select cms taking performance and admin overhead into account 

Keep in mind this process is open for participation to anyone with an
opinion about it.
This includes some of the other people I added CC: of this email, as
they might be interested in having the localisation portal hosted by
Linux-Aktivaattori, and maintained by the Localisation working-group.
This also means you can forward to people who you think might be
interested in participating in this process.

In order to keep track of this process, I started webpage to gather all
the information.[1]
I will inform everybody about its process, like when we will move on the
next step. But you can check regularly to see it progress.

Although I included some of our mailinglists in the Cc: field, I ask you
to keep the discussion on the 'discussion'-list. If you aren't yet
subscribed to this list, I invite you to join so you can provide
feedback and ideas.[2]
