Had 4000 songs .. now says 0

I was in the process of uploading a few songs to my
ipod when my PC froze. The ipod was also frozen in the
Do Not Disconnect mode. 

I ended up rebooting my PC and resetting the ipod. now
the About page indicates:

0 songs
capacity of 27.9Gb
available 12.9Gb

when i went and tried ephpod again i got the folowing
msgs

1) stream read error
2) cannot create file c\programfiles\ephpod\iTunesDB
