Re: tips for using both EphPod and iTunes at the same time:

This is kind of cumbersome, but whenever I use ephpod these days, I first
kill several of the iTunes services that are running in the background:
gearsec.exe, iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe. That way, when I plug in
my iPod, iTunes doesn't autostart and "grab" the iPod. I use Sysinternals
Process Explorer to kill the three processes. My 40gig iPod now has "mixed
content" -- 1/2 of the tracks transferred via iTunes, 1/2 transferred via
Ephpod. I haven't noticed any ill effects from using both tools as iPod
managers.

Joe has added a "Make EphPod Default iPod Manager App" feature to version
2.75. It's found at the bottom of the "iPod Tools" menu. I haven't tried
this feature yet, but I assume that it instructs the iPodService to fire up
EphPod rather than iTunes when an iPod gets plugged into the system.

I'd also say that iTunes runs sooooo slow on older hardware -- my old 400mhz
laptop can barely handle it while EphPod zips along.

Even tho I am no longer an EphPod user (been using gtkpod on linux), does
anyone have any tips for using both EphPod and iTunes at the same time? Are
there any caveats to say, loading up iTunes and buying some music, then
switching back to EphPod?

cheers,
-steve
