One more "restore", and letting iTunes do its thing with the source
files, and it synched.  I was able to see and play the music on the
iPod, and it has survived use of the iCarPlay.  The next real test will
be the next time I add music to my collection and re-synch.

I don't know what happened, but the way I see it, EphPod failed and
iTunes eventually succeeded, so it looks like I'm moving to iTunes.
