I did notice that using the VBR rate at "Audiophile" quality sometimes caused my iPod to skip the rest of the song entirely when the bitrate would change (i.e., slow soft passage to loud passage of music). This happened repeatedly with "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence. And, sometimes, playing the VBR files would cause the iPod to reboot spontaneously.
