Absolutely, mp3gain is wonder software.  Several larger cataloging programs
are starting to use it's technology for their volume leveling capabilities.
Best thing about it, it doesn't alter the .mp3 (i.e. uncompress, level,
recompress), just changes the volume settings.

I've used it to get my entire 7500+ song catalog at the same volume level,
and it works so great on the iPod, no more cranking the thing for a soft
song then watching my car windshield explode when then next tune comes up.
