I had a similar problem recently: MacOpener wouldn't operate on my new Dell 
laptop running WinXP -- it gave me the Blue Screen of Death every time I 
hot-plugged my iPod.  (Even the MacOpener people told me, "we suggest you 
do not run MacOpener.")

There are a number of shareware alternatives:
         Sharing Disks Between Macs and PCs
         http://www.macwindows.com/disks2.html

My solution: like Gordon Harris said, reformat your iPod to use the Windows 
file system. (You'll still be able to access it on a Mac.)

But, before you do this, you CAN use one of the programs listed on the page 
above to copy your files (and Music) off the hard drive.

My solution was to download and 'evaluate' one of EphPod's competitors, 
XPlay, which includes Mac-reading software.  I think I prefer EphPod's 
interface to the iPod over XPlay, but the shareware trial worked well to 
try copying files to and from a Mac iPod.
