Off Topic (sorry) Setting up 30gb on Windows 98 SE (with firewire patch)

My dad has just picked up a new 30gb ipod but only has windows 98se which he has upgraded the firewire support on. One small problem is that he can't install the apple software which lets him format it as a fat32 drive, he is still able to add tracks via ephpod but is would be easier if it could be reformated. Does anyone know how you would go about it? He's only back for a visit from Denmark and its a bit hard for me to pop over from the UK to restore it if he has any problems (and doesn't know anyone in Denmark with XP) Can the windows reg be hacked to make the apple software thing its me for example? Can he just format the drive as fat32 and restore it with maybe ephpod? Has anyone tried this?
