Genre tags missing

Hi -

I just installed Ephpod v2.70a on my Windows XP laptop and am using it
successfully to load music onto my iPod (early 5Gig iPod updated to Windows
using winniepod updater).

Everything works fine except the Genre tags are empty on all my songs except
from one album (about 300 songs total). The Genre tags on all my songs are
fine when displayed in WMP v9. Almost all of the songs have a genre of
"Rock" or "Jazz", except for one album which has a Genre of "Alternative &
Punk" and this is the album that *does* show its Genre tag in Ephpod.

Another strange thing is that for all the songs that do not show a Genre,
the Comments field in Ephpod contains a long string of nonsense characters.
Here's an example: 9+0690E2BC4C79A23F64C2D8991B4D4007+450277. But in WMA,
the Comments field in the tag is blank.

In the Ephpod Configuration window, "Attempt to read ID3v2 tags" is
selected. If I deselect it, the Genre tags are still not shown when I add a
song, but the Comment field now shows the comment: "ID info taken from
directory".

And another thing: If I right click on a song and select "Edit Tag," the
correct information is shown in the fields the first time I do this. But
then if I select another song and right click on it and select "Edit Tag",
the information for the previous song is shown, not the information for the
current song. It keeps showing the info for the first song, no matter what
song I right click on. Not until I exit Ephpod and restart it, can I edit a
new tag.

I've searched the list server archives and have seen that other folks have
had a similar problem, but haven't found any solutions.

I tried wiping the iPod clean and then adding songs again, but that didn't
help.

I also tried changing the tags in WMP, but that didn't help either.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Doug Taylor
