Tags in MP4s are currently a moving target. There seem to be some emerging
standards, but nothing has carried the day yet. That may change once iTunes
for Windows comes out. For compatibility, I suspect most developers of
ripping and tagging software will then adopt whatever "standard" Apple sets.
Joe has previously posted some if his investigations into Apples take on the
M4A file format. You might check the archives. Also, you might check out
Richards command line tagger he has been developing over at
hydrogenaudio.org.

In the mean time, I don't believe Ephpod is writing or reading ANY tag
information to/from the MP4 (M4A) files, but rather just putting your "hand
entered" info into the iTunesDB file on the iPod. I think that's why the
info doesn't "stick" with re-syncs. That said, the "Naming convention for
Adding Songs" feature in the latest version of Ephpod (under
Extras->Configuration->Advanced Options) makes this "virtual tagging" pretty
painless. I use "%G\%A\%L\%N - %T." as my template and that gives me all
the tag info I need without having to type anything. I just have to be
disciplined about how I name and store my MP4 files.

I had the same problem. If you let ephPod determine the tag from the
directory structure you'll be fine, that's worked for me. I have
artist/album/track - title.mp4 and when I transfer to the iPod ephPod put in
the right tag. I'm not sure if it's a proper mp4 tag or just an mp3 one.
My problem is ephPod doesn't remember any of the tags between transfers, so
I end up transferring all the mp4s when I sync, regardless of whether or not
they're on there already. Anyone else have luck with this?

Thanks
