(Maia, if you are around??) I have just found the original ubuntu newsgroup discussion that Maia had concerning the linking of the libmp4 library to gtkpod. I am now up to speed why it uses dlopen for dynamically using the library rather than linking directly, ie. licence conflict since this library is under the MPL and gtkpod is under GPL. Long term, it is slightly arkward given that the only working version of the library that is available is from http://code.google.com/p/mp4v2. Ubuntu for example has an older version and I have found numerous posts from people totally confused about which library to use especially as ubuntu seems to have a patched / older version of libmp4v2 anyway. Looking at libavformat again but before I get too in depth with trying a replacement experiment, would anyone have any better suggestions or thoughts in general on this? Bottom line, this will need replacing before a version 2 of gtkpod gets released.
