As I understand, simply cloning to github shouldn't be a problem.   I  
wonder if there is a way to also bring along the open issues (or at  
least those determined to still be relevant.

I'm happy to help instigate the change, but I certainly am not capable  
of becoming a core developer.

In the very short run, however, I'd love to see a fix for compiling  
with -fno-common (now the gcc-10 default.)  I've tried, and the fix  
eludes me, but I'm certainly not a great C programmer.

A note to the Gentoo bug says Debian and Fedora still support gtkpod,  
but their fix for this is just to force -fcommon.  It's certainly a  
reasonable work-around, but I still don't think a real fix should be  
very difficult.
