Doug had a quick successful trial with the guts of a compaq craptop,
MeshAP booting off a 32M compact flash card (via yer loaned adapter),
off a 12V battery (Maplin), with a Lucent-based chipset-card in the
deck. I've got a bunch of logs / processes / stats-when-running off it
on my laptop, for anyone interested. Now need to build the first
proper one into el-ammobox, do a proper solder-to-mobo-job for the
CF-hotseat, work out the hotplug-to-recharge method, and possibly
build a dedicated linux distro.

Over xmas period, the main project was building a mediaserver, in the
Something-Else geek category. Mainly so we could geek from the lounge
and record flims off telly, and suchlike. ;-)

Andy, you picked up a bulkload of the compaq craptop mobos, no? Might
be worth hooking up down here and running them thru a dead-or-alive?
session to see what you've got. Give us a shout on that.

On my own project (el mapper), my Libretto has started acting up and
crashing when moved when powered up, which is somewhat limiting for
the signal-mapper, for obvious reasons. Been looking at various
Delaunay triangulation code chunks to get the proper mapping ability
going, but until I can sort the craptop's reliability, that's on ice.
Annoying.

Incidentally, did any of the rest of you make it to the Easton
Wireless bash at the Cube Microplex, as mentioned in NTK before xmas?
Me n Doug made it down there, but didn't spot anyone else from our
clan.

Also, still interesting stuff on the uknot mailing list re the telco
licence requirements for anything over 20 nodes... (recommend anyone
interested joing the uknot mailing list, although it's somewhat
high-traffic - I think the key parties are also on Consume's main
lists, however)

Steve.
