As a total aside to this discussion thread, the way we provide simple 
mail forwarding only (no storage) is via mail groups. Eg create a 
mailgroup with a single member of the destination address. Works quite 
well for us.

Of course this method doesn't work as well in the situation where a user 
already exists.

Another alternative is to use Cyrus's SIEVE filtering protocol to 
forward the messages before they get stored. SmartSieve (PHP) or 
Websieve (Perl) work quite for this; there's also a plugin available for 
Squirremail that I haven't setup yet.
