I would like to propose using horde (http://www.horde.org/) as the 
framework for the front-end: they already have ldap integration, 
authentication, caching, templating and many other features. they also 
have many modules that could be very well connected to ispman, like 
imp, turba, ingo, gollem, sork (vacation, accounts, passwd, forwards).

as for the back-end we should think about something like Net::Server, 
amavisd-new allready use it very successfully, of course we have a 
client, not a server... daemontools is giving troubles under new linux 
distros!
