First of all thank you for your interest, Jim.
I'm not sure that maildrop is compiled with ldap support:
I followed (also for postfix configuration) this howto:

http://www.atix.com.br/~alexb/ispserver/

so I downloaded maildrop-1.7.0-1.3.src.rpm and performed an

rpmbuild -ta maildrop-1.7.0-1.3.src.rpm

then I installed it with rpm -Uvh

So now I have trie this:

rpm -ivh maildrop-1.7.0-1.3.src.rpm

now I have maildrop sources ready to be compiled in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES 
and
maidrop.spec in /usr/src/redhat/SPECS

but if I try to edit it with vi I'm not able to find directives to enable 
ldap support:

searching the net with google I found this spec file (of the same version)

http://altlinux.org.ua/devel/RPM/SPECS/classic/maildrop.spec

there I could find 2 ldap directives:
%define courier_confdir	/etc/courier-imap ---> Notice I changed it to 
/usr/lib/courier-imap/etc
%define confldap maildrop-ldap.conf

then I rebuild it with (in SPECS dir)
rpmbuild -ba maidrop.spec
but I noticed that when I have rebuilt it the specs file is restored to its 
default: the 2 lines I have added are not there

notice thet when I installed courier imap I have been able to build it 
without any warnings, but when I tried to install it
I got a failed dependencies with /usr/local/bin/perl. I have perl installed 
in /usr/bin/perl so I did a symlink in /usr/local/bin to
it and did the install with --nodeps. Courier-imap seems to work properly

The same trouble (with perl dependecies) is with maildrop installation

what do you think about?
