Assuming you are using sarge from Debian GNU/Linux:
# apt-cache show perl
Package: perl
[...]
Version: 5.8.4-6
Replaces: perl-5.005 (<< 6), perl-5.6 (<< 6), perl-doc (<< 5.8.0-1),
perl-modules (<< 5.8.1-1), libdigest-md5-perl, libmime-bas e64-perl,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
libtime-hires-perl, libstorable-perl
Provides: perl5, libdigest-md5-perl, libmime-base64-perl,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
[...]
Have a look at the "Replaces:" and "Provides:" lines, which state that
the perl package already provides this library.
Please ask debian questions on the debian mailing lists, like
[email protected] or see http://www.debian.org/support.
There is also an debian-isp Mailinglist. In the archive you can find
some hints using ispman with Debian GNU/Linux.
Yours,
Marko
