taken from syslog after /etc/init.d/slapd start (debian sarge):

May 18 11:53:26 ispman slapd[1575]: backend_startup: bi_db_open(0) failed! (12)
May 18 11:53:26 ispman slapd[1575]: bdb(o=ispman): Database handles open 
during environment close
May 18 11:53:26 ispman slapd[1575]: bdb_db_destroy: close failed: Invalid 
argument (22)
May 18 11:53:26 ispman slapd[1575]: slapd stopped.
