Sorry, I've been bad about getting the documentation written up for 
this...  Been way
too much overtime at work the last few months...

excalibur-instrument has been stable for a long time though and sould be 
able to be
released.  I wrote test cases for it a while back, but still need to 
complete the docs.
I'll give myself a kick in the pants. :-)

Altrmi is used for the altrmi connector of the instrument manager.  The 
IM itself does not require
it.   But that said, Altrmi is currently the only way for a client to 
connect to the IM.   Marcus had
said a while back that he was working on a Soap interface to the IM. 
 Not sure how far along it
is though.
