Starting a new Portal

Good afternoon!

I am starting a new Portal Project and, although I've had previous
experience with Liferay, I'm committed to use Jetspeed2 as its base.

I have just downloaded the sources and was trying to run the Jetspeed
Tutorial <http://portals.apache.org/jetspeed-2/tutorial/index.html> when I
faced the already discussed issue "Build failure with Maven 3
<https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JS2-1227>".

Reading the bug description and browsing through the list archive, I've
noticed that many other problems have already been fixed and are ready to
be shipped in the next release.

My question is:
Should I use the version available at the site to build my portal or should
I just ignore it and use SVN HEAD? Will I be missing too many corrections
if i stick to 2.2.2 or will I get too many trouble if i go to SVN HEAD?

I know that this is a extremely subjective question, but with your insight
will surely help me decide which way to choose.
