Hello,
for 6.5 the netbeans maven integration could become part of the
default distribution, I consider it a major achievement for evveryone
involved. Apart from getting a much wider user audience, we will also
get support from netbeans.org devs and sun management. That means all
the technologies that didn't work so far or worked in suboptimal
manner, like webservices, profiler or visual web, shall be fully
supported usecases for the base IDE in the future.
There's a few prerequisites however.
1. the source needs to be moved to hg.netbeans.org, I assume current
commiters gain automatically access to the new repository.
2. the projects need to be converted ant. That's something I will have
to cope with.
3. The sources will be repackaged (to org.netbeans.modules.maven.* probably)
4. And they will have to be relicensed to CDDL+GPL2 (CP exception) dual license.
So I will need a written agreement from everyone involved in the
netbeans integration.
from what I could dig out of fisheye, it should involve these people:
Milos Kleint, Anuradha Gunasekara, Laurent Foret, Eric Hartmann as commiters
Daniel Mohni, Raphael Pieroni, Mathias Arens as contributors
If there's anyone else, please speak up. The Sun legal department will
approach you soon with regard to signing copyright assignment (and
maybe other documents)
5. we will have to move all outstanding issues to netbeans.org
6. update the website etc..
Comments, questions most welcome.
Milos Kleint
