Yes, I agree that the netbean plugin is much nicer than the eclipse one, for
the maven side.

But that is not the point and I did encounter the unwanted dependencies
issue(which IMO is more like a maven issue, how come after all these years
people still cannot have these dependency things worked out like Debian).
But that still doesn't change the fact that I cannot effectively use what is
in netbean and maven, TOGETHER.

Here is how I use it in eclipse :

1. create dynamic web apps in eclipse(not maven project which just as you
said is useless or have maven generate the eclipse side, i.e. mvn
eclipse:eclipse) but use the src/main/java, src/main/webapp instead of the
default one for the paths. and add src/main/resources as the addition
source(maven convention for classpath resources like jdbc.properties)

2. add maven to this new project(must have the m2eclipse plugin)
3. add maven libraries to the J2EE dependency
4. add dependencies(using the m2eclipse plugin) which would goes to POM and
is deployed/packaged by eclipse automatically, or manually edit POM.

What I have now is a eclipse project that I can work on as before but a
layout that I can play with using maven(editing the POM and use command line
tools for quirks like the mentioned unwanted pulls). Fast test cycle under
eclipse and the benefit of the command line mvn stuffs for
building/integration testing etc.


Under netbean :

I want to create a web project with all those new shiny woodstock/facelets
etc. support, everything is nice.

Now how do I add maven to this project ? Impossible. 

The other way round, I can create a maven project but where do I add these
woodstock, facelet, JSF support ? Impossible.

That is why I said it is an island. It integrate well with netbean the IDE,
but not how I use the IDE. 

If there is a way so I can create a netbean web project and add maven on top
of it(like the above in eclipse), I am more than happy. Otherwise, it seems
like an 'either/or' situation.
