Because I don't know how to. As far as I am aware I cannot add GlassFish as run
target to an EAR project. If I change the packaging of the project from jar to
ear, the run option in the properties popup disappears. Is there any other way
to deploy to GlassFish without using the asadmin command?

I totally agree. See my question above. Also, there is the cargo plugin but
afaik it still doesn't work with GlassFish.
